'Tomb Raider' first look: Sophie Turner transforms into iconic video game character
Lara Croft is back and as cool as ever.
Prime Video released the first look at Sophie Turner in costume for the role, a preview for the live-action series based on the video game.
According to the official press release, “The Prime Video series Tomb Raider is based on the iconic Tomb Raider video game franchise, which follows the adventures of world-famous archaeologist and adventurer Lara Croft.”
Turner also shared the photo on her Instagram with the flexing bicep emoji and the hashtags “TombRaider” and “WardrobeTest.”
The “Game of Thrones” alumna is following in the famous footsteps of Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, who both previously played the role on the big screen.
"I’ve been a long-time fan of Tomb Raider and the character of Lara," Turner said in a 2025 statement, per E! News. “They're massive shoes to fill, following in the steps of Angelina and Alicia with their powerhouse performances, but with Phoebe at the helm, we (and Lara) are all in very safe hands.”
She added, “I can't wait for you all to see what we have cooking."
“Fleabag” creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge is the series creator, writer, and executive producer, so expect some cheeky humor from our gun-toting archeologist.
Joining Turner in the cast will be Sigourney Weaver, Jason Isaacs, Martin Bobb-Semple, Jack Bannon, John Heffernan, Bill Paterson, Paterson Joseph, Sasha Luss, Juliette Motamed, Celia Imrie and August Wittgenstein.
No word on a release date for the series, but production is officially under way.
