David Corenswet is flying into theaters today as Superman in the newest take on the comic book icon.

The 32-year-old actor was practically made for the role, not only for his superhero good looks and towering height (he’s 6’4”!), but because he truly loves the character.

“My pie-in-the-sky ambition is definitely to play Superman. I would love to see somebody do an upbeat, throwback [take on Superman]. I love the Henry Cavill dark and gritty take, but I would love to see the next one be very bright and optimistic,” he told Entertainment Weekly back in 2019.

Now that he’s donning the tights, the cape, and the underroos, here’s everything to know about the newest Man of Steel.

Born and Raised in Philadelphia

Corenswet was born and raised in Philadelphia, growing up in the suburb of Lower Merion with parents John Corenswet and Caroline Packard.

And he’s moved back close to home since the birth of his 1-year-old daughter with wife, actress Julia Warner.

“I feel like I've been a dad for a long time, and just waiting for a kid to prove it,” he told People Magazine recently.

Hoagies vs Cheesesteaks

As a Philly boy, he weighed in on the most important question during his People cover story interview: Hoagies or Cheesesteaks?

“Hoagie just because you got more options. I love a cheesesteak, but a hoagie, you can have a cheesesteak hoagie,” he explained.

Famous Family

Corenswet’s maternal grandfather is Edward Packard, author of the “Choose Your Own Adventure” book series.

“But it's always fun having somebody mention them. The books come up one way or another, and I get to give him credit,” he told People. “And people who love those books really love those books, and it really means something to them.”

Superman Connection

Corenswet attended the prestigious acting school Juliard, just like the original big screen Superman, Christopher Reeve.

“He was somebody who we talked about quite a lot as an alumni who was to be sort of admired and looked up to,” he said in his People interview.

Reeve’s son, Will Reeve, even signed off on Corenswet taking on the role, saying at the premiere this week, “Getting to see David in his suit was a trip, he looked great, I told him he had the seal of approval.”

Putting in the Work

“Superman” may be his biggest role to date, but you’ve more than likely seen Corenswet on your screen before now.

He had a series of one off roles in shows like “Elementary” and “House of Cards” before landing his first major recurring role in the Netflix series, “The Politician,” from producer Ryan Murphy. Murphy also cast him in his mini-series, “Hollywood.”

Horror fans likely recognize him from his role as “The Projectionist” in 2022’s “Pearl,” and more than a few folks might remember him as Scott in “Twisters.”
