What to watch in theaters and at home this weekend March 26-28, 2021

SALT LAKE CITY (KUTV) — It's been one of those weeks that feels incredibly busy behind the scenes but hasn't left me with much to actually share with you. If you're heading out to the theater, I highly recommend last week's "The Courier" or catch any of the Oscar Best Picture nominees as they make their way back into theaters for those who were unable to see them during their initial runs.

Here are a few options for your weekend viewing.

Nobody

Bob Odenkirk stars as Hutch Mansell, a seemingly innocuous nobody. He’s really a former government hitman who has tried his best fade into the background to be a husband and father. But killing is in Hutch’s blood and he’s itching for an excuse to relapse. Lots of shoot outs, fist fights and general mayhem follow. Not on par with “John Wick,” but a reasonably entertaining action thriller spiked with brutal violence. (Full Review)

Boogie

Written and directed by Eddie Huang ("Fresh Off the Boat"), "Boogie" is a fairly traditional coming-of-age drama that stands apart because it is centered on Alfred 'Boogie' Chin (Taylor Takahashi), a first-generation Chinese American teen with a promising basketball future. His home life is something of a disaster. His parents are mismatched, his father is in and out of jail for one scheme or another and all their hopes and dreams are placed entirely on Boogie's back.

Having spent a couple weeks in theaters, “Boogie” is now including video on demand as a viewing option.

The Father

Anthony Hopkins stars as Anthony, an older man who is losing his memory, in Florian Zeller's adaptation of his stage play "The Father." We see the world as Anthony does, which makes what is real and what is mistaken for real hard to define. Not nearly as hard for the audience as it is for Anthony or his daughter Anne (Olivia Colman) who is constantly told that she isn't Anthony's favorite daughter. Great performances from the cast, which also includes Imogen Poots, Rufus Sewell and Olivia Williams.

This excellent film is now streaming at Eventime as well as playing in theaters.
