Everyone's favorite swamp ogre will return in "Shrek" 5 with a new face added to the franchise - in-demand actress Zendaya.

The news was announced on the series' official X page Thursday morning alongside a video featuring Shrek, voiced by Mike Myers, Fiona, voiced by Cameron Diaz and Donkey, voiced by Eddie Murphy.

Zendaya will play their daughter in the Universal and DreamWorks Animation movie slated for release on Dec. 23, 2026. Details on the storyline have not been released.

To help celebrate the news, the official "Shrek" Instagram account shared a screenshot of a tweet from Zendaya in 2017 saying, "I watch Shrek too often in my adulthood" with the caption "This aged well."

The film franchise started in 2001 and went on to win the first Oscar for Best Animated Feature grossing more than $488 million worldwide.

"Shrek" is based on the 1990 picture book by writer and cartoonist William Steig.
