Ahead of the Los Angeles Auto Show, Toyota introduced its 12th-generation Corolla sedan, showcasing a level of refinement that usually appears on more high-end vehicles.

When it makes its appearance as a 2020 model, the Corolla will be built on the Toyota New Global Architecture (TNGA) and will come equipped with features such as Apple CarPlay, Waze integration, Amazon Alexa, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, automatic emergency braking, automatic high beams and lane trace assist.

The 2020 Corolla will have five trims and two engine options. L, LE and XLE will come equipped with the 1.8-liter 4-cylinder engine, which is a carry over from the current generation. Toyota hasn’t released specs for this engine but says it’s tweaked to deliver more horsepower and get better efficiency.

XSE and SE will get a new 2.0-liter direct-injection 4-cylinder engine that delivers 169 horsepower and 151 pound feet of torque.

The slick new design is punctuated by standard LED headlights and Toyota’s signature wide-mouth grille. Interior design looks clean and simple, and materials get a major upgrade.

We had the opportunity to test the all-new 2019 Toyota Corolla Hatchback earlier this year. And if the driving dynamics and ride quality of that vehicle are anything to go by, this new sedan is going to be efficient, attractive and fun-to-drive.

Though pricing hasn’t been announced, the current generation Corolla sedan starts at $18,700, and we can’t imagine Toyota will add too much to the bottom line – especially since the all-new Corolla Hatchback starts at $19,990.

The other big news Toyota revealed at its press conference is that the next-gen Corolla will also get a hybrid powertrain for the first time.

Toyota promised more details about the hybrid on Nov. 28 at the LA Auto Show’s AutoMobility LA.
