LYNCHBURG, Va. (WSET) -- The coronavirus pandemic is impacting everyone's daily routines, even those who are giving birth and going to the hospital.
Johanna and Daryl Calfee welcomed a new baby boy into the world one month ago while Johanna is battling stage 3 breast cancer.
Their baby boy Emmanuel had to be revived shortly after birth on March 14 because he wasn't breathing and was in the NICU for several days. Johanna was the only parent allowed in the NICU at the time due to the coronavirus pandemic.
They were able to take him home on March 21.
Johanna started chemotherapy again March 27. Due to the public health crisis, Daryl is not able to be with her in the hospital during chemo sessions.
Waymaker Church posted an emotional update from Daryl on how hard this battle has been for him and his family of five.
"God has been good to you," Daryl says as he counts the blessings he has received during this trying time.
Johanna is in her last round of chemotherapy.
Although Daryl can't be inside the hospital due to restrictions, he's sitting outside of Pearson Cancer Center with a sign that says "I love you. Right here with you" so that Johanna can see it and know she has his support.
