NORFOLK, Va. (WJLA) — A driver was recently the recipient of a hefty speeding ticket, courtesy of Virginia State Police (VSP).
Troopers cited the driver on I-64 for 152 miles per hour in a posted 55 mph zone in Norfolk.
The agency tweeted out a partial photo of the ticket Monday.
"Just because temperatures are up, does not mean speeds should be, too! ... 515 lives lost to traffic crashes in Virginia this year; so far-many because of excessive speed."VSP tweeted, followed by the hashtags#SlowYourSpeed and #drive2savelives.
WJLA has been reporting on how traffic fatalities are at a 16-year high.
During the coronavirus pandemic, the U.S. began to see more dangerous and risky driving behaviors exploding on the nation's roadways.
"One perfect example is we started hearing from the states the incredibly high rates of speed that certain drivers were engaging in and we know it’s because the roadways were wide open,” said Pam Fischer, a traffic safety expert with the Governors Highway Association. “And people were saying, very frankly, we're not seeing police officers out there. And we know how effective that high visibility enforcement is when you see a police officer on the road, you do slow down.
