911 dispatcher helps woman deliver baby on Christmas

BOISE, Idaho (KBOI) — An Idaho dispatcher helped a woman deliver a baby over the phone on Christmas day.

Emergency 911 dispatcher Keema Wilkinson got to tap into the spirit of the season Saturday when she helped a couple through the sudden birth of their baby son.

"He said that my wife is in labor and she's having the baby right now, and I was like, 'OK, let's do this. This is great,'" Wilkinson said.

Wilkinson calmly coached the couple through the birth, and in just a few minutes, baby Henry Dusek was born.

"Neither one of us were expecting it. It was about three minutes into the call to 911 that the baby came out," said Danielle and Scott Dusek.

Through the chaos, mom and dad said they were happy to have someone there to help out.

"Having the dispatcher be able to go through everything, even if we knew what we were supposed to do. Still in shock and having someone there to kinda guide as we were going through it was kind of how the dispatcher made it definitely easier for us," Scott said.

Wilkinson earned her first "stork pin" and she said she was just happy to be part of the process.

"To be involved in any life being brought into the world is obviously exciting and it's an honor, but you know, to be able to do that on, you know, Christmas day was pretty ... pretty cool," Wilkinson said.
