'Are We Dating The Same Guy?' Facebook group aims to 'protect, empower' women

Women are joining forces on a private Facebook group to let one another know if they are dating the same man, as well as shed light about the men.

It's called "Are We Dating The Same Guy? | Buffalo / 716 / WNY."

This group is a place for women to protect and empower other women while warning each other of men who might be liars, cheaters, abusers, or exhibit any type of toxic or dangerous behavior," according to the profile description.

The "main uses" of the page are also listed and include the following:

  • It can be used to inquire about men you're seeing or who you just met to see if anyone has had any experiences with that person / to check to see if anyone posted any warnings about a man
  • It is also a safe space for relationship support and advice in general
This group is not about hating men," the profile notes. "This group is about protecting and empowering women."

The New York-based group was created in May 2022 and hasnearly 50,000 members. The account requires users to answer a few questions before they are granted access.

There are also a few rules users are asked to follow.

When posting about men, the group warns users not to "include even a single remotely negative word or accusation in the post text or post images," such as name-calling, assumptions, suspicions, and possible defamation.

Plus, users are asked not to screenshot content from the group. They are also encouraged not to judge men they don't know or belittle anyone.

Don’t comment on any guy unless you have personal experience with them or relevant information about them," according to the profile. "Don't make comments based on a guy’s looks, attire, name, age, or occupation. Don’t make comments to make fun of men, crack jokes about anyone posted, or speculate on posts about men you don’t know. Don't laugh react at posts about men that aren’t specifically meant to be funny. Violate any of these and you will be banned."

There are also Facebook groups for others states, as well as groups that help men who are dating women.

One group is called, "ARE WE DATING THE SAME GIRL? | BOSTON / PROVIDENCE EDITION." The group notes that it strives "to cultivate an atmosphere of male empowerment, awareness, and support."
