SAN ANTONIO (WOAI/KABB) — "Day in Old Mexico" brought traditional rodeo fun to San Antonio’s Fiesta.
On Sunday, Day in Old Mexico saw San Antonians enjoy the fun and festivities of Fiesta and Old World Mexico alive, with fun, food, and mariachis, all amidst traditional Charreria, or livestock sports hailing from old Mexico.
These events stem from the rich history and culture of livestock handlers throughout Mexico and the southern United States, where workers would test their skills in competition.
The event, hosted by the San Antonio Charro Association, also featured Girls Escaramuza Charra, the only women’s equestrian event of old Mexican Charreria, consisting of choreographed horse riding set to music, an event heavily inspired by traditional Vaquero culture.
The event allowed families to enjoy the rich culture and history of Old Mexico alongside the fun and flair of modern Fiesta.
