Dogs eat their owners' winning lottery ticket

SALEM, Ore. (KATU) — Oregon Lottery officials have almost heard it all concerning lost and damaged tickets, but a dog eating a lottery ticket was a first.

A woman sent a letter with a torn-up winning lottery ticket and a picture of the culprits.

The two pup bandits are identified as Alaskan Klee Kias named "Apple" and "Jack."

Their owners, Rachael and Nathan Lamet, have had Apple and Jack since they were puppies.

For some reason, we left the ticket on the ottoman and they decided it was delicious,” said Rachel Lamet wrote. “I went to bed and when I woke up it was eaten to the point that I thought it was unable to be checked. But my husband thought it was hilarious and someone might get a good laugh at the very least. He said it’s for sure a winner."

Oregon Lottery was able to put the pieces together and discovered the couple won $8 on the lottery ticket.

The couple says they plan to get more chew toys with their lottery winnings.

Lottery officials recommend players always sign the back of their tickets with each Oregon Lottery game they play. In the event of winning a jackpot, players should consult with a trusted financial planner or similar professional to develop a plan for their winnings.

Above all, make sure the ticket is out of reach of any furry friends!
