WASHINGTON (WJLA) — A firefighter's quick thinking saved a baby who was dropped from the second-floor window of a burning apartment building in Washington, D.C.

"The only thing that was going through my mind was, 'Make sure you secure the catch.' Just make sure I secured the catch with the kid," firefighter Jared McKinney said.

Sunday night, fire and EMS crews responded to a fire at an apartment building in the southeast section of the city. McKinney said the child's father was sitting on the window sill as the flames were spreading. With little time to act, the dad yelled to McKinney and trusted him to catch his 2-year-old.

"Me being a father myself, you always want to protect your kids. So I could definitely see in his face that he wanted to get his family to safety as quickly as possible by any means necessary,"McKinney said. "I was just glad I was there to help him."

Luckily everyone made it out safely and the father was able to thank McKinney for his quick actions and solid hands.
