Florida's lime light: Shamrock, the green-furred golden retriever goes viral

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (WPEC) — A golden retriever puppy has gone viral for its unique shade of key lime green fur.

The puppy, named Shamrock, was born in Florida, none other than the Key Lime State. The unusual coloration is due to a rare occurrence where the puppy was stained in the womb by a green bile pigment called biliverdin. Although this temporary coloring is rare, it is not unheard of.

Shamrock's owner, Carole DeBruler of Golden Treasures Kennel, shared the puppy's story on TikTok, where it quickly gained millions of views.

Dog lovers around the world are captivated by the puppy's distinctive color, though the key lime green hue has since faded as the pup grew.
