A mischievous raccoon climbed it's way 90 feet up into the nest of the Redding Bald Eagles around 9 p.m. Saturday; And no, this was no April Fool's joke.

"This is truly the season that keeps on giving," Friends of the Redding Eagles Founder Terri Lhuillier said. The eagles have faced extra challenges this year like atmospheric rivers, snowstorms, severe winds and the loss of two eggs.

It seems like they just can't catch a break.

The intruder was reportedly eating leftover scraps from a coot that Redding eagle, Liberty, had devoured earlier, Lhuillier said. Lucky for the raccoon, the eagles weren't home.

A raccoon intruder has never happened at the nest before, according to the Friends of the Redding Eagles-FORE.

The raccoon is fortunate the eagles didn't swoop in and have it for a snack. They didn't seem so happy when they returned.
