DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WKRC) - A robbery suspect chose the hard way out when he leaped off a bridge into water to evade the police.
The Daytona Beach police tracked a robbery suspect to a bridge over the Halifax River on Thursday.
Two officers approached the suspect and exchanged words. When an officer told the suspect he was being detained, he suddenly turned around and jumped off the bridge and into the river.
According to a Facebook post from the Daytona Beach Police Department, "Our Marine Unit was deployed and quickly fished Richard Martinovics (DOB 10/31/1991) out of the water and placed him under arrest."
Martinovics is facing charges of robbery, obstructing an officer, and violation of pre-trial release.
The department ended their Facebook post by saying, "Trying to swim away from your problems will only land you in deep water - and a wet jail cell!"
