PHOTOS: Large ice chunk falls from sky, leaves hole in metal roof of Florida home

A large chunk of ice fell from the sky on Monday, leaving a hole in the metal roof of a Central Florida home.

The Palm Coast Fire Department said crews responded to the Seminole Woods neighborhood at around 3:39 p.m. after a caller reported multiple pieces of ice scattered across the roadway, with one piece striking a neighbor’s home.

At the scene, the Fire Department discovered a large hole in the metal roof and remnants of ice had gotten into the living quarters. Photos show the damage the ice left to the home, with a large hole in the roof at the front of the house. Fortunately, no injuries were reported.

The firefighters notified the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the Palm Coast Building Department about the unusual occurrence.

After an inspection, the building department deemed the home safe for occupancy. To protect the property, the fire department said it placed a blue tarp over the damaged roof.
