PITTSBURGH (WHP) — The mystery animal that wildlife experts couldn't identify as either a coyote or a dog, being taken care of by Wildlife Works Inc., has escaped leaving caretakers devastated.

According to a Facebook post from Wildlife Works, on Jan. 27, a caretaker woke up in the morning and went to check on the animal but was met with the aftermath of a destroyed cage, claw marks on the walls, a chewed window seal, and a rip in the screen.

The "coyote" was taken to the animal rehabilitation center after a Pennsylvanian woman found it on her property last week.

Wildlife Works said since the "coyote" arrived, he never acted aggressive or distressed.

For the week they had the animal, Wildlife Works said they were feeding him nutritious food while taking care of his injuries and mange. They assume he started to feel better and decided it was time to go.

The Wildlife Works team said they were mortified after finding out the animal ran away. They also want everyone to know if you sent donations, they will offer a refund due to the circumstances.

If you see the mystery animal, Wildlife Works asks that you do not attempt to capture it, but instead call the office at(724) 925-6862.
