Overdue poetry book returned 93 years later to Ohio library

COLUMBUS, Ohio (WSYX) — Ever forget to return a library book on time?

And then you get fined a buck or two?

What if you were supposed to return the book 93 years ago?

Well, the Licking County Library in Ohio revealed in an Instagram post that it recently received a returned book that was due in 1931.

"Heart Throbs," a poetry collection, was returned after a patron found it in a relative's house.

Fortunately for the family, the Licking County Library is now "fine free," so no late fees will be assessed.

But if penalties were still being enforced, here's what the borrower would have had to pay:

• 17 cents per day
• $62 per year
• $5,770 in 93 years
