CINCINNATI (WKRC) — Panera Bread has discontinued dozens of menu items.
Panera Bread announced a menu overhaul earlier in the year in an effort to refocus its restaurants on sandwiches and salads. Panera confirmed that beginning April 4, some items would be removed from the menu, with nine items planned to replace them.
According to Eat This, Not That!, 48 menu items have been removed from the menu in what was described as the "biggest menu transformation" in the company's history.
The publication compared Panera Bread's old menu with the offerings available on the new menu and found that the following items have been removed:
1. Sandwiches
2. Baguettes
3. Bowls
4. Pizza
5. Bread
6. Salads
7. Soufflés
8. Pastries
9. Coffee
10. Other beverages
11. Condiments
Per the publication, the Smoky Buffalo Chicken Melt's name has been changed to the Spicy Buffalo Chicken Melt.
According to Eat This, Not That!, Panera Bread tested a smaller menu at select locations during the summer in 2023. Panera Bread responded to Eat This, Not That!'s request for comment on the discontinuations.
"Our new menu is refocused on our core offerings with the goal of adding more options, more innovation, and more value within the categories our guests love the most – soup, salad, sandwiches, and mac & cheese. The menu offers more new salads and sandwiches, better value with more new options below $10, and more in every bite with additional chicken and steak on many menu items," Panera Bread told the publication.
