WASHINGTON (TND) — Rock sensation Bret Michaels has stepped forward to adopt a heroic canine from an animal rescue.
A husky named after him became popular when he helped save the life of a kitten with a blood transfusion at the Nebraska Humane Society (NHS).
The shelter said the 6-year-old dog stepped up to save the day when medical staff noticed a rescued kitten seemed a little bit "off."
"He was wobbly, weak, and lethargic. These symptoms, combined with the state he was in, all pointed to one thing: flea anemia," the shelter added.
Known as xenotransfusion, the dog's blood was able to be safely transfused to the kitten, and soon after the kitten started showing signs of improvement.
A few days later, the Poison frontman reached out to NHS and wanted to chat, according to the rescue.
"We can't wait to see how he thrives in his new home, we just hope it doesn't get too confusing when someone tells Bret Michaels to fetch!" NHS said.
The rock star told PEOPLE he "could not work fast enough to adopt the husky and extend the awesome quality of little Bret Jr.'s life."
