PORTLAND, Ore. (KATU) — A sea lion colony has taken up residence in the Columbia River near Hayden Island.
KATU photojournalist Mike Warner got this video of the animals hanging out on a dock near the Interstate Bridge Friday morning.
A woman he spoke to in the area said they were around most of last week.
The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife tells us this is a pretty normal occurrence this time of year.
The sea lions will chase Smelt up the river to feed on.
Once the food supply thins out, they will head back down the estuary.
