Son asking for birthday cards for WWII veteran's 102nd birthday

(WHAM) — The son of a U.S. Army Ranger who served in World War II is asking for people to help his father celebrate his birthday.

Bill Eck will turn 102 on January 11. The veteran of the 5th Ranger Battalion climbed cliffs atPointe du Hoc in Normandy on D-Day and was wounded about four months into his service.

It has been a tough year for Bill. His wife of more than 60 years, Christine, died on Christmas morning.

Bill's son, Wayne, said he wants to cheer his father up by getting as many cards as possible sent to him for his birthday.
