A Central Utah Emergency Communications dispatcher is remembering a recent call she took in which she delivered a baby as "her best working day ever."

On Aug, 20, 2023, dispatcher Marissa Bishop took a call from a central Utah woman who reported that her 23-year-old daughter was in labor, three weeks before her due date.

Panicked, the woman on the line said that her daughter's water had just broke and that she was in extreme pain. In a recording of the dispatch call, the daughter could be heard shrieking in the background.

Bishop, remaining calm and gentle throughout the entire conversation, asked how many seconds apart the daughter's contractions were. Before the woman on the line could answer the question, she yelled frantically, "Oh my gosh, I can see the head!

"I'm going to tell you what to do next. Listen carefully and do exactly as I say," Bishop eased. "You're doing great helping her."

Moments later, the mother announced in a flutter of serenity and grace, "He's a boy."

Congratulations," Bishop said, a smile heard in her voice.

By this point in the conversation, the mood had shifted to one of anxiety to warm relief.

Bishop continued to walk the woman through the process of keeping both her daughter and the baby comfortable and safe until officials were able to respond.

Shortly after the delivery, two cops and a fire chief arrived on scene and took over the situation.

"Thank you so much," the woman said with gratitude before hanging up the phone.
