RICHMOND, Va. (TND) — Some might say there's not much special about the Virginia Lottery's Pick 5 game. It's played twice a day, every day. But Maurice Lawson would probably disagree.
Lawson bought four tickets for the October 17th daytime drawing, each of the same five-digit combination: 4-3-4-4-4.
And wouldn't you know, those turned out to be the winning numbers!
But this is where his story becomes more interesting.
The lottery reports, on two of his tickets, he wagered "exact order," so each won the game's $50,000 top prize.
On the third ticket, he chose "any order," and won $10,000.
And on the last ticket, he played 50/50 to win $30,000.
That all adds up to $140,000 in winnings for what's normally a Tuesday 1:59 p.m. drawing.
