COLUMBIA-TUSCULUM, Ohio (WKRC) -- It's a new beer with a lot to bark about. Streetside Brewery is launching a promotion that mixes good beer and good pets.

Lucille is looking like the cat’s meow. She’s landed a spot as a beer can cover model. Alle Foster from Ohio Alleycat Rescue (OAR) says the shelter has around 200 cats up for adoption.

“We’ve sent a lot of photos of our lobby cats because they are the most well-known faces of OAR, but we didn’t know which ones were going to be picked until today," Foster said.

Lucille, a 1-year-old white cat, is one of eight adorable and adoptable pets being featured on a new beer about to be released from Streetside Brewery on Eastern Avenue in Columbia-Tusculum.

“We thought it was a good way to tie into something that we’ve done a lot of and that we are very passionate about,” said Garrett Hickey.

Hickey is the owner of Streetside Brewery and is a doggy dad to three. He says OAR and the Save the Animals Foundation (STAF) have partnered with them for past fundraisers. Money from the new limited-edition release will go to both animal shelters. Twenty-five percent of every four-pack sold and $1 from each drink served in the taproom will be given back.

“At any time, we’ve got about 50 dogs and 300 cats available for adoption. We rescue from high-kill shelters in rural areas,” said Cathy Roesener from STAF.

She says Tommy Lee, whose picture is featured on a can, came from one of those places. The dog has lived at their shelter on Red Bank Road for a year and needs a family with some extra love to give.

“He’s a beautiful, well-behaved dog. Someone who needs to be firm with him, I would say,” Roesener said.

The promotion is about raising awareness as much as it is finding good homes. The name of the new brew, "Who’s a Good Beer?" is a nod to the saying "Who’s a good pup?" The brewery plans to make 15 barrels of the hazy pale ale. That will be enough for 70 cases plus drafts on-tap.

Cheers to the new Yappy Hour at Streetside! The brewery is also hosting separate fundraisers before the can release. Click here for details.
