BONNER SPRINGS, Kan. (WZTV) — When members of the Westboro Baptist Church showed up outside the Foo Fighters concert in Kansas Thursday night, the band responded ... with disco!
Viral video shows the Foo Fighters playing disco on the back of a flatbed truck near the Azura Amphitheater in Bonner Springs, as protesters hold up signs that say“Be not conformed to this world” and “No peace for the wicked” and “God hates pride” and “God is your enemy."
At one point in the video, the truck stops and frontman Dave Grohl says,“I got something to say because you know what, I love you. I do. The way I look at it is I love everybody. Isn’t that what you’re supposed to do? Can’t you just love everybody? Because I think it’s about love. That’s what I think.”
Before singing "You Should Be Dancing" by the Bee Gees, Grohl says, "I deliver all of my love. You shouldn’t be hating. You know what y’all should be doing? You should be dancing.”
An account appearing to be associated with Westboro Baptist Church also tweeted the video with the caption:
“Dave Grohl claims he loves everybody and Westboro Baptist Church does not. Hello! There’s no love in encouraging sin,” @GodH8sYourIdols tweeted in part. “Someone might accuse Dave of being a ... Pretender.”
According to court documents, the Westboro Baptist Church believes that God punishes the United States for acceptance of homosexuality in general and in the military, with the group picketing at several events, including some military funerals. The Southern Poverty Law Center describes them as one of the most rabid hate groups in America.
