Latest 'Avengers: Doomsday' teaser pairs unexpected teams in the desert
We’re getting our first moment of levity in these weekly “Avengers: Doomsday” trailer drops.
This week, we see a team of Wakandans, led by Shuri (Letitia Wright), who took over the Black Panther identity in “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and M’Baku (Winston Duke), now king of Wakanda, striding through the desert in the trailer’s opening moments.
“I’ve lost everyone that matters to me,” Shuri says in a serious voiceover as we also get a glimpse of Namor and the Talokan people.
Shuri continues, “The king has his duties to prepare our people for the afterlife. I have mine.”
Arriving together to their mid-desert destination, King M’Baku introduces himself toBen Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) aka The Thing from Fantastic Four???
Not quite what we were expecting, but the trailer promises, “The Wakandans and The Fantastic Four Will Return in Avengers: Doomsday.”
We shouldn’t be that surprised though, since the film is set be a massive mashup of characters, combining the “New Avengers” from this year’s film, plus a team brought together by Anthony Mackie’s Captain America (Sam Wilson), as well as a multiverse’s worth of characters, including the original film version of the X-Men and the current Fantastic Four lineup, which includes Moss-Bachrach, Pedro Pascal, Vanessa Kirby, and Joseph Quinn.
All those people will be facing off with Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom. His arrival was teased at the end of this summer’s “Fantastic Four: First Steps,” in a post-credits sequence, but his face was never shown.
This is the fourth teaser for the film, which won’t be out until the end of the year. The first marked Chris Evans’ return as Captain America, followed by Chris Hemsworth as Thor, then the return of The X-Men, with Patrick Stewart as Professor X, Ian McKellen as Magneto, and James Marsden as Cyclops.
“Avengers: Doomsday” will be in theaters December 18, 2026.
