Mandy Moore says new show with 'This Is Us' creator is 'very, very different'
Mandy Moore is teaming up with her “This Is Us” show creator Dan Fogelman for something “very, very different.”
“I think Dan is all heart, I think anything he writes and this is totally a very, very different show from ‘This Is Us,’ but at the heart of it is his heart,” she told us at the Step Up 2025 Inspiration Awards.
The currently untitled show is set within in the world of the NFL, and co-stars William H. Macy and Christopher Meloni, per Variety. Moore will be playing the daughter of an NFL team owned by Macy, with Meloni in the role of head coach.
“I think the way he writes women, he loves women, I’m so excited to step into some very different shoes and do something challenging and maybe a little bit more unexpected,” Moore told us. “I’m very grateful to get to work with him and his just unbelievable writing and to be here in Los Angeles working is a real gift as well.”
“This Is Us” ended a little over three years ago, but Moore is still feeling the effects of the show.
“Rewatching it through the lens of being a parent now, I agree and disagree with some of the choice my character and some of the other characters make,” she said. “And I feel like it’s just an incredibly invaluable life lesson after life lesson after life lesson. I’m like, ‘Oh that’s how you do it. That’s how you take accountability, that’s how you apologize, that’s how you show up for your family.’ Like in all the ways, I’m very impressed and definitely taking notes.”
Moore is having an impact of her own, being honored at the Step Up 2025 Inspiration Awards alongside Storm Reid, Jamie Chung, Margie Moreno, Luvvie Ajayi Jones, and Dr. Anjali Camara.
“I am incredibly honored to be here today, I mean, I’m a big fan of the incredible work that Step Up has been doing for decades now,” she said. “And I really feel like there needs to be more of an emphasis on uplifting those around us, our friends and the next generation, and I hope that at 41 years old, that my little tiny example in the world can continue to do just a little bit of that work.”
