Why were the chickens all over the road? That's a question many Chattanooga drivers were faced with on Rossville Boulevard Monday morning.

Those live chickens apparently fell off of a truck transporting them. But right now, it's still unclear exactly what happened, but we're working to learn more.

Jessica White of Jasper says she pulled out her camera as she approached an unusual sight: dozens of chickens, some of them still living, all over the road. Some drivers slowed down to let the chickens cross the road. Others didn't.

Watch her video below:

I mean, it was just nuts,' White told us on Tuesday. 'It was obvious that there was a truck that they must have fell out over something, you know, but it was, it was shocking to see that's for sure.

White's video shows the chickens were spread across at least a city block.

A representative for the McKamey Animal Center tells us that one of their animal protection officers responded to find around twenty dead chickens. They called the city's Public Works Department to remove the carcasses from the road.

White tells us she never saw a chicken truck when she drove past.

Right now we're still working to learn what company was transporting these chickens and how they came to fall off the truck.

We also are working to learn what happened to the chickens that fell off the truck and survived the ordeal.

Depend on us to keep you posted as we learn more.
